West Bowling Green Street, Edinburgh

A large and complex demolition contract involving 3- large buildings making up most of West Bowling Green Street in Leith.

The Asbestos product removed by a specialist contractor and managed on site by the contract management team was removed prior to the works commencing and upon completion of the internal works the demolition phase could begin.

The standard, conventional remote mechanical demolition work of Phase -1 itself was of no problem to Forth Demolition even with the west elevation sitting on Anderson Place. The method of demolition selected for Phase-2 was pre-weakening and deliberate collapse as the steel work had still asbestos cement sheeting attached following a partial hand demolition work. Phase-3 was a full hand demolition. Other challenges came from the river, the Water of Leith running around the site perimeters, underground fuel and oil tanks and the archaeological works that followed the demolition.

British Legion Club, Edinburgh

A very nice demolition project on Baileyfeild Road South. The contract was the removal of the former British Legion Club, a stone built house with several brick and masonry constructed dance halls and rooms attached.

The northern elevation required hand reduction work to create a safe working space. Once this was complete the standard conventional remote mechanical demolition completed the works without incident.
